Until recently, medical treatment for allergic disease has been reactionary (managing symptoms rather than preventing disease).  New advances have given us more information on how to prevent and/or reduce the allergic march.

Breastfeeding, timing of food introduction, genetics, pre- and probiotics, vitamin D deficiency, acetaminophen exposure during pregnancy, mental health, and weight gain have all been associated with the development of allergic disease.  Armed with this new information health care providers can now improve the health of patients and their families.
