Sue Cox, AM, has worked with mothers and babies for nearly thirty five years as a counsellor and lactation consultant. She trained as a breastfeeding counsellor with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) in 1975. In 1978 she was successful with a submission to the Royal Hobart Hospital to combine her midwifery experience with her counselling knowledge and was successful in becoming the breastfeeding specialist, and in 1985 became the first hospital certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) in Australia.

Sue has served on the boards both of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (1985-86), and the International Lactation Consultant Association (2004-2007), serving as the President in 2006. Sue is a Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association (FILCA).

Sue was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2004 when her work was recognised in the Australia Day Honours list - ‘For service to community health, particularly as a lactation consultant, educator and counsellor for the care of breastfeeding mothers and their babies.’
